On 27 and 28 August 2024, MAN Energy Solutions hosted in Frederikshavn (Denmark) a 2-day meeting with the Grade2XL partners for the project review sessions and an industrial visit of the facilities of MAN ES. The tour included MAN PrimeServ Service Centre Denmark for production, repair and retrofitting of the engines parts for broad marine and process industry applications.
The event gathered 20 onsite participants and 5 online attendees, offering a great opportunity to review the project’s progress and discuss the achievements and challenges in the final stage of the project after 4,5 years of collaborative work.
Steffen Jacobsen, Technical R&D manager at MAN ES in Frederikshavn, partner in the Grade2XL project attests:
"A professional and dedicated teamwork for the project's progress in Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology has led to significant advances that MAN ES will be able to exploit in the future, leading to improved propeller designs, extended product life, reduced production costs and energy consumption as well as faster and better repairs of propeller parts. This development marks a significant leap forward in production-efficiency and sustainability. Thanks to all partners for their hard work and dedication to push the boundaries of what is possible.”
The demonstrator by MAN ES is one of the eight realized demonstrators of the Grade2XL project. All demonstrators significantly contribute to materials and energy savings, which improve the environmental and economical footprint of the products, ranging from 40-90% of the conventional manufacturing footprint. In total it is a great contribution to the European Union’s goals on reduction of CO2 emissions and use of critical raw materials.
